Day 28 - 30/9/22 - Sandalwood to Woolgoolga (Woopi)

Travelled the fairly short distance to Woolgoolga where I was dropped at the Golf course to play 18 holes - it was very windy and I put my rain jacket on 5 times!

The shipwreck is visible at the moment on the beach right out the front of our caravan park.

The weather has turned cold and rainy - really our first period of wet weather on this trip, so no outside fire tonight!

Day 27 - 29/9/22 - Tweed Heads to Sandalwood

Travelled back to Sandalwood where we stayed earlier in our trip. It's a great park and we really enjoyed another night outside under the stars with a fire.

On the way to Sandalwood we stopped in at a few spots along the way:

  • Byron Bay where the ladies enjoyed some shopping at the fancy and the Hippy Dippy shops
  • Zentfeld's Coffee Farm & Roastery. They grow coffee on their farm and have been since 1989 - best coffee in Byron!
  • Duck Creek Macadamias because you can't have enough chocolate coated macadamias!
  • Harvest Newrybar for lunch and coffee
  • Patchs Dog Beach - Pippen's favourite beach for running crazy all over the place!

Day 6 - 8/9/22 - Crystal Castle Adventure

Written by Eva Handes

We stopped at Crystal Castle on our way to Byron to take in the sights.

Mum and I explored the gardens and wonders, which included multiple beautiful statues, a bamboo walking trail, an entirely hand-planted forest walk and a massive Buddha statue.

We also got to enjoy a beautiful crystal intention meditation and sound cleansing, as well as a wonderful cafe and bookstore filled with delicious food and knowledge.

Finally, we marvelled at the stunning amethyst geodes, caves, statues, and carvings. All of the paths and tables were lined with rose quartz. The workers at the crystal shop were lovely and helpful, willing to share all of their knowledge to assist you.

We discovered that the entire experience was soul cleansing and healing; anyone interested in magical, beautiful, or educational sites should definitely go.

Day 25 - 27/9/22 - Roma to Toowoomba

We left Roma for Toowoomba, but before we left we popped into the Roma Saleyards as Tuesday is the big sale day. Roma Saleyards is the largest cattle saleyars in Australia!

We stopped for coffee at a lovely coffee shop in Miles called The Creek cafe which has lovely coffee & food & very helpful and friendly staff.

In the evening we went to see the Toowoomba flower festival.

Day 24 - 26/9/22 - Emerald to Roma

Long drive today. Was the highlight having to wait by the side of the highway with 15 other vehicles for a “wide load” to pass which was a very large mining truck being transported? Possibly not, but as Taemar said, “you don’t see this in Sydney”.

We also stopped by Roma’s largest bottle tree. They’re everywhere in Roma and can apparently withstand temperatures from -5 to 45 degrees!

We also visited the Roma Bush Gardens and then finished our day at our accommodation…Roma Gun Club! We thought this looked like the best option in Roma, and guess what, we were right. The facilities are some of the best and cleanest we have stayed in our whole trip and the staff were friendly and helpful too!

Day 23 - 25/9/22 - Emerald

We had brunch with Levi at The Sensory Emerald cafe where Levi & Taemar tried Croffle - a croissant that has been put into a waffle machine…kinda wrong, but kinda right too!

We then went to Miners Heritage at Rubyvale where Eva & Taemar did a mine tour and then when fossicked for sapphires (and found a bunch!)

Then it was back to Emerald where we stopped in at the Botanic Gardens (impressive and fun!) and The Big Easel (a tribute to Van Gogh’s sunflowers), and then a catch up with Levi where we admired his plants and of course Zoidberg, the incredible blue Yabby!

Finally, another amazing sunset at the dam/lake.

Oh, and there is a photo showing an amount of 74.85 litres of Diesel at a fuel station. We have a 75 litre tank. Needless to say I cut this a little too close on our trip to Rubyvale. Interestingly, after we had refilled the tank Taemar & I both shared our private mental calculations for how far I would have had to ride or run to town to get a can of Diesel…we both figure that once we got within 15km of town it was doable :-)
